Remember the lawyers, prosecutors, judges who were killed

Regarding “13 FLAG lawyers killed, FLAG @ 50” by Ma. Ceres Doyo (Human Face, 10/25/24).

I, too, wish to applaud Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) for setting a fine example over the past 50 years.

Your readers may be asking under which presidents the FLAG lawyers and one judge were assassinated. Five were killed under President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.; five also under President Cory Aquino; and one each under Presidents Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Benigno Aquino III, and Rodrigo Duterte.

Of course, it is important to remember all of the other lawyers, prosecutors, and judges whose lives have been taken, depriving the country of courageous, highly skilled guardians of the rights of people.

I believe the number of National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers lawyers killed would be similar to the losses suffered by FLAG.

My research indicates that since 1965 there have been 225 legal professionals killed, with 40 others who survived a murderous attack.
