Gut-wrenching betrayal

Thank you for the investigative piece. “Who’s the real ‘architect’ of Pogos?” (Moving Into High Gear, 3/10/24) that reads like a suspense thriller. I would have taken pleasure in reading it except that it required me to brace myself for the awful, gut-wrenching betrayal of public trust and welfare by high and mighty public officials.

This brings to mind the confidential intelligence funds in various agencies that seem to lie dormant and are scandalously and brazenly unaccounted for. It is difficult to blame voters who take the pay-offs in the survivalist-transactional mode of financial assistance sponsored by politicians using the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Their “utang na loob,” however, reinstalls and perpetuates shrewd, heartless, and insatiably greedy family dynasties. Oh dear, what a predicament we are in!

It looks like our situation has resisted being transformed—as Caroline Myss exhorts—from the love of power to the power of love. Nevertheless, I very much appreciate your continuing efforts to carry the torch to dispel this sadly normalized darkness in our God-given archipelago. Cheers, to truth and reparation!
