‘Kalyeserye’ offered much fun, it deserves another run

Nestor Torre, in his column “What will they do for an encore?” (Entertainment, 9/16/16), wrote about his nagging “Eat Bulaga,” for months, to conclude the story-telling of its hit ‘Aldub’ segment,” saying it “overstayed its welcome” to the point of boring its viewers with stretched-out material retold the nth time. Now, that probably explains why the segment ended last Sept. 3, with the supposed “departure to the United States” of the two “lola,” played by comedians Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola, just when the story was getting more exciting with Aldub officially coming out as a couple in reel and real life.

I am sure the millions of Aldub fans out there are awaiting the comeback of the segment with the two endearing “grandmas” and, of course, the “kilig” factor brought about by Aldub. Why would Torre be a “killjoy” and want the end of the segment? All he could have done was just avoid watching the show. The “kalyeserye” had brought much fun and laughter to both young and old. Never mind if the comedians in the cast were shown doing the same routine and antics, over and over again.

In a previous letter, (“‘Kababawan’ offers priceless good feel,” Opinion, 10/20/15), I reacted to Lea Salonga’s remarks about “kababawan” or shallowness in TV shows, as a result of which she got bashed online by Aldub fans. Yes, it’s all the same story about why Tito, Vic and Joey and “Eat Bulaga” have lasted this long, even with the same comedy routine.

I hope “Eat Bulaga” will bring again the “kalyeserye” segment and its continuing story on the Aldub love team. Let us give back the characters that have endeared themselves to many, be they all “kababawan” or stretched-out material retold. To the producers of the segment, I suggest that we come out with a more interesting storyline as a follow-up.
