Paradigm shift vital in COVID-19 era

/ 04:01 AM February 15, 2021

The term paradigm shift as defined by Webster is an important change that happens when the usual way of thinking about or doing something is replaced by a new and different way. Paradigm shift also refers to a major change in the concepts and practices, or how something works or is accomplished.

The desire for a new paradigm is vital in this pandemic that has affected economies and people around the world, and specifically in the Philippines where several millions have ended up unemployed. Paradigm shift invoking the “bayanihan” spirit or helping one another must again be instilled in the minds and hearts of the Filipinos to uplift their morale.

Although protocols for the crisis and ease of doing business are currently being revisited and/or implemented in the public sector, the objectives must be focused on how ordinary Filipinos can easily comply with these requirements and regulations brought about by the pandemic—whether it’s wearing face masks or ensuring safety of children in cars, etc. When changes are proposed, authorities must see to it that they will be user friendly and can easily be implemented. Although several processes are already in place, re-engineering these processes for simplification is paramount for laymen to understand.

Paradigm shift in all that we do, whether in the public or private sector, must be simple and not complicated to follow.
