Daily struggle of public commuting
We are facing a transport crisis, not just a traffic crisis, in Metro Manila. The public utility vehicles available are simply unable to meet the demand of commuters.
As a daily commuter who travels from Cainta, Rizal, all the way to España, Manila, I endure a daily struggle. When LRT 2 stopped operations from Santolan to Anonas stations in October, the usual travel time of one hour became more than two hours.
Most commuters had no choice but to take the bus, unless they could afford the luxury of booking a Grab car, which costs 20 times more than public transport.
The government has to acknowledge that there is a mass transportation crisis and act on it with urgency, instead of merely dismissing it like what presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo did.
