Duterte-style drug war continues

04:02 AM November 27, 2019

According to “presidential interpreter” Salvador Panelo, Vice President Leni Robredo wasted the opportunity given to her as Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs cochair by not formulating at once her plan of action.

But from the start, VP Leni gave in broad strokes what her direction would be: catching the big drug lords, minimizing the number of deaths by installing body cameras, and emphasizing the rehabilitation of drug users.

With the firing of VP Leni, Sen. Bong Go, PDEA director general Aaron Aquino and the PNP are delighted that the war on drugs will again focus on hunting down and killing small-time drugs pushers and users, and not the drug lords who are on the list VP Leni had requested, or those who have links to the so-called Davao group.
