Honor ejected from Congress?

To all those congressmen who broke their false “anti-death penalty” promises just to be elected. . .

To all those congressmen who sold their principles and abandoned basic, fundamental human rights (yes, even criminals have rights!) for political self-preservation . . .

To all those congressmen who have either ignored, misunderstood or are simply ignorant of our Constitution, which binds all to value life from conception to natural death . . .

Passing the death penalty bill just proves your lack of faith in your own abilities to transform our society into something better.

Is death your easy solution? Is death now the convenient rug under which you can sweep society’s undesirables? Has honor just been pushed out of the halls of Congress?

I am reminded of Dante’s Circle 12—save for the 54 men and women who, by courageously defying the herd, showed they still know how to show respect to the One, True Giver-of-Life who alone has the power, authority and wisdom to take it.
