Advance voting for seniors
MAY I suggest, for the Commission on Elections’ consideration, that all senior citizens be allowed to vote at least two or three weeks before the day of the elections on May 9, 2016, for the following reasons:
- To avoid disenfranchising senior citizens simply because they can’t find their assigned voting precincts. Every voter must have experienced the hassle of looking for one’s voting precinct. Many elderly citizens no longer have the energy to jostle into a vantage position to get a view of the voters’ list from room to room.
- To spare senior citizens the risk of being hurt at the polling place in the event something untoward happens on the election day.
- To spare senior citizens the strain of having to climb stairs to their voting precincts on the higher floors.
Or maybe the Comelec can designate special voting precincts for senior citizens at the ground level of all polling places.
I am very certain the suggestions will be most welcome to all senior citizens of the Philippines who still can and want to vote.
