This is in response to Neal Cruz’s column, “Mamasapano battle will make good movie” (Opinion, 2/9/15). I agree with his great idea: An action-packed, historical movie on the Mamasapano battle should be made; it will surely be a box-office hit.
But I would like to add that a movie tie-in (book edition) would be better so the future generations of Filipinos will be aware and remember the names and faces of the 44 commandos of the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police, for they should be told about these policemen’s heroism.
Schools should require their students to see the movie and/or read the book. A reasonable percentage of the proceeds from the film and the movie tie-in should be given to the heroes’ bereaved families because they also deserve financial assistance. They lost their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons so suddenly. These families could also form a solid support group (where their sponsors and benefactors can join in), where not only can they find solace and look out for one another but also make sure that their needs and demands are well attended to.
This will showcase the creative genius of the Filipino. We do not only have gallant heroes in our midst; we also have a pool of gifted and talented artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers and directors. This is a perfect time and opportunity to make history. Strike while the iron is hot!
