Betrayal of Aquino’s campaign promise
In the face of the indecent haste and naked use of political pressure in the enactment of the law postponing the ARMM elections and allowing the highly questionable appointment of OICs, Konsyensyang Pilipino (KP) joins all opposers in vehemently condemning this brazen disregard of the Bangsamoro people’s right to elect their own leaders as provided by the law establishing the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Though we subscribe to the need for reforms in the ARMM, we believe that this can effectively be achieved through the election of reformist candidates.
We view this wrong means to achieve a desirable end as a betrayal of the “matuwid na landas ” campaign promise of President Aquino.
We appeal to the Supreme Court to right this grievous wrong by swiftly granting the petitions for TRO to stop the new law’s implementation.
