Armed Forces as partner of the people

/ 06:02 AM June 03, 2011

THE YEARLY participation of the military in the Brigada Eskwela before school opening shows the commitment of our Armed Forces to its role as partner of the people. I have long retired from the teaching profession, but I continue to monitor developments that foster the students’ awareness of their civic duties.

I am sure many of them will remember that at one time or another, their schools were cleaned, painted—maybe even renovated—by our soldiers. The pupils look forward to having clean, airy and fresh classrooms conducive to learning. Many of them will definitely get inspiration from what these soldiers had done in case they decide to embark on soldiery as a career someday. And when they grow up, they might even replicate what our soldiers are doing now.

Our students today are lucky. In my time, there was no Brigada Eskwela. The advocates and supporters of the program, as well as its volunteers, should be lauded.

This letter of appreciation is my way of recognizing the soldiers’ efforts in making our society better through their good deeds and in serving as exemplars of the spirit of cooperation in the eyes of the youth.
