ILLEGAL LOGGING has always been a problem in our country. Laws banning and regulating logging have been passed, but illegal logging continues. Many cause-oriented groups and environmentalists have been working to at least minimize illegal logging and identify illegal loggers.
As we know it, trees are a source of food and oxygen and has countless life-giving properties. And they prevent flooding in low-lying and coastal areas. But illegal loggers just don’t care. Look at the floods and devastation our country had to suffer through heavy rains. Look at the human casualties and communities dislocated and gone hungry during typhoons.
I therefore welcome the recent decision of President Aquino to involve the Armed Forces of the Philippines in the campaign against illegal loggers. The AFP has been tapped to spearhead the campaign. Illegal loggers, beware!
