Monsod denigrates SC, lawyers, Carpio
In her intent to defend acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio from the charge that he belonged to a top law firm that “facilitated favors” for Supreme Court justices, Inquirer columnist Solita Collas-Monsod noted that all top law firms did the same (Inquirer, 6/16/12).
What does that say of the Supreme Court? What does that say of our country’s law profession? What does that say of Justice Carpio? What does that say of some top opinion-makers? With such friends, who needs enemies? Of course, nobody has been charged with, much less convicted of, such offense—ergo, everyone is presumed innocent and, as a top lawyer reminds us, there’s “nothing to be ashamed of.”
In the same column, Monsod had this to say of the decision of the Sandiganbayan favoring Lucio Tan and Ferdinand Marcos: “Dear God!” Isn’t this even more applicable to what she wrote about the Supreme Court and top law firms?
