Why Bongbong Marcos lost

/ 05:01 AM March 04, 2021

Bongbong Marcos was largely leading in the surveys for the vice presidential race in 2016 up to a few weeks before election day. Then he started getting flak from the anti-Marcos segment of society and his ratings started going down.

His downfall started when he started getting overconfident and very strongly defended the Ferdinand Marcos regime. Some of his friends advised him to just tone it down and take the position that he was young and was by no means involved in government, so that he knew very little about what was then going on. But he insisted on painting his father as a very good president and his administration as marvelous.

This roused the sleeping giant that the anti-Marcos segment was. Its voice grew and grew and before Bongbong knew it, his substantial lead had dissipated so that by election day, he lost by thousands of votes. Unless he has learned his lesson, it will be pointless for him to run again for president or vice president.
