‘Most expensive electricity’
You could not be more correct in the editorial, “For cheaper electricity” (10/1/18). Filipinos indeed suffer from the most expensive cost of power in Asia, if not in the world.
That some congressmen saw it fit to shelve and most likely archive a possible solution to the high cost of power is a source of puzzlement to us long-harassed consumers. We can only suspect the motives of these lawmakers.
However, that the loudest voices of those against the move to cut down electricity costs come from party-list lawmakers did not come as a surprise. These party-list groups are long suspected of protecting vested interests and abandoning their oath to be the voice of the marginalized in our society.
What’s even more surprising is that 15 congressmen opposing lower electricity overruled the will of the majority 150 lawmakers who supported House Resolution No. 8179.
