June 12 marks the most significant holiday in the Philippines: Independence Day or Araw ng Kalayaan.
There are no classes, government offices and establishments are closed, and even public transportation is limited due to closed-off roads.
On this day, people participate in nationwide parades, the Philippine flag is prominently displayed in many places.
But, aside from these, do we really know the history that dates back to June 12, 1898? Araw ng Kalayaan recognizes the heroism of Filipinos.
Let us give tribute most especially to our soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives for our country’s peace.
