Secretary of Hyperbole

Vitaliano Aguirre should be the “Secretary of Hyperbole,” instead of being the justice secretary.

When President Duterte threatened to suspend the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus, he claimed it was just hyperbole.

When the President said that he would not allow the police involved in the killing of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. to be imprisoned as the National Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice are under the Office of the President, Aguirre quickly defended the statement as mere hyperbole.

And when Mr. Duterte bragged that he personally killed drug dependents when he was mayor of Davao City, the justice secretary again beat everyone in asserting that it was just hyperbole.

Hyperbole is defined as “exaggerated statements or claims not to be taken literally.”  Aren’t Secretary Aguirre’s assurances about the President’s statements the real hyperbole?
