An inviting city

What makes Marikina City attractive, clean, orderly and friendly?

Why are there no garbage heaps on its streets? Why do pedestrians here cross streets, using designated crosswalks? Why do drivers step on their foot brakes to let people cross over to the other side of the street? Why are there no groups of people drinking liquor on street corners or openly carrying bottles of alcohol in open streets? Why are there no clothes hanging outside the windows of houses or buildings? Why is there nobody walking down the streets without shirts on? Why is the city so alive and its people so inspired and energized? Why do I love this city?

How can all this be?

REGINALD B. TAMAYO, assistant city council secretary, Marikina City
