‘A. Soriano Corp. does not own El Nido Resorts’

04:54 AM December 01, 2014

We refer to the news article titled “El Nido beach tests positive for coliform” (Across the Nation, 11/17/14), which stated that “the town (El Nido) also hosts high-end island resorts, including Soriano Corp.’s El Nido Resorts.”

We are disappointed with the lack of basic research and editorial integrity expected of a national broadsheet like the Inquirer. Please note that A. Soriano Corp. does not own and is not connected with El Nido Resorts.

Naming A. Soriano Corp. the owner of El Nido Resorts has created confusion and misled the clientele of A. Soriano Corp.’s Amanpulo resort. The article maliciously associated A. Soriano Corp. with hotel owners in the town of El Nido that do not have proper sewage disposal systems. A. Soriano Corp. and the management of Amanpulo have worked hard to maintain Amanpulo’s world-class standard, which standard can only be maintained by preserving its environment through excellent and efficient house facilities, including a sewage disposal system.—JOSHUA L. CASTRO, legal counsel, A. Soriano Corp.

(We regret the erroneous attribution of El Nido Resorts’ ownership to A. Soriano Corp. However, we would like to assure A. Soriano Corp. that the error was not motivated by malice.—REDEMPTO D. ANDA, Inquirer Southern Luzon)
