Cursed ‘part of PH history’?
As the PDAF scams unfold before our eyes, I just cannot help but feel that Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile may be a cursed man. I cannot help wonder why at the age of 90, he is accused of being a plunderer, portrayed as criminal in the eyes of the people and seems destined to spend time in jail.
Senator Enrile is part of our history, of our culture. He is a self-made man, a financial wizard and a genius lawmaker. But destiny seems to single him out as a political and social leader who needs to be controlled for others to flourish.
If indeed he is cursed, I wonder if he would let go of his worldly possessions and legislate laws that would ensure honesty and integrity in public transactions and expenditures; and if such actions would be enough sacrifice to give him peace, respect and love in the remaining years of his life.
It would be like a telenovela if our aging Senator Enrile would indeed do an ultimate sacrifice of donating his wealth and making laws that would ensure the “safety” of public funds in the hands of any public official, and then retire to anonymity. Would we all live happily ever after?
Wow, what an illusion—or a political miracle?
