GA case purely legal and factual
I write in reaction to the news article titled “Delfin Lee to ‘tell all’ at Senate hearing” (Second Front Page, 4/7/14).
I’ve been following the news regarding the Globe Asiatique (GA) controversy for some time now and I was hoping that, should it turn out that irregularities in violation of law were indeed committed, those behind them would be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
Thus, the statement of Lee’s lawyer that “politics” was behind Lee’s legal woes came as a complete surprise. If I remember right, the controversy broke out early in 2010, before the Aquino administration took over. And in the four years or so that has passed since then, there has never been any mention of “politics” as the motive driving the prosecution of this case. Which gives me the impression that Lee must be desperate by now and has ran out of excuses. And with 2016 just around the corner, what better way to obfuscate the issues than to inject “politics” into the equation.
The Globe Asiatique case is purely legal and factual. Not political. It should remain that way.
