Maynilad ‘obligated’ to cut water service

04:48 AM April 16, 2014

This is in reference to the editorial titled “Water warning” (4/13/14), which associated the Holy Week water service interruption of Maynilad with the dry season and the decreasing water level in Angat Dam.

This is both inaccurate and misleading because our scheduled interruption is due to the flood interceptor project of the Department of Public Works and Highways and has nothing to do with the dry season or current state of Angat Dam.

The DPWH originally wanted us to implement our pipe realignment and water service interruption last February. We requested that we be allowed to do it from Holy Wednesday to Black Saturday instead, so that fewer customers will be affected by the service cutoff.

Historically, water requirements are lower during Holy Week because students are on vacation and many of our customers travel out of Metro Manila.

We hope that your readers and our customers understand that Maynilad is obligated to give way to this DPWH project. The government is committed to solving the perennial flooding in the City of Manila, and Maynilad will do everything it can to support this noble objective.
