Gov’t walking out on duty to commuters
We dare Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma and the rest of the Aquino Cabinet to take the daily commute from their homes to their offices without using their gas-guzzling and non-environment-friendly SUVs before lecturing the commuting public on “using alternatives” to the Metro Rail Transit.
Unlike the members of the Cabinet who are known for their inefficiency and are not penalized for being late for work, ordinary students and employees suffer due to the incompetence of the MRT management and the Department of Transportation and Communications. Students incur demerits for undeserved absences in some of their classes, while employees are hit with salary deductions or even threatened with being laid-off.
We reiterate: The public has a right to a quick, efficient, and affordable means of public transportation. Coloma’s statement is tantamount to a declaration that the government is abandoning its duty and obligation to the commuting public.
