Only crooks fear national ID system

/ 10:24 PM January 24, 2014

I think it is urgent for government to institutionalize a national identification (ID) system. Every day, we hear of illegal activities by groups or persons, like one “David Tan” who is said to be the smuggling king today. If we had a national ID, people like Tan could have easily been traced and apprehended. In the case of the victims of Supertyphoon “Yolanda,” those still missing could also have been easily identified if they had national IDs. As we write, many of the victims remain unaccounted for, with their families uncertain of their fate.

Those who oppose the national ID system are those who have something to hide or who engage in illegal trade or activities. For legitimate, law-abiding citizens like me, I am 100-percent in support of the ID system. Having a national ID is something to be proud of.  Business transactions would be easy and hassle-free.
