Doronila analysis out of place on front page
MAY I call your attention once more to allowing your front page (Monday, April 18) to feature uncalled-for remarks against the present administration. Amando Doronila’s column, Analysis, headlines “‘Nobody home’ President.” In my book, that means empty-headed, stupid in my version of American English, “walang utak” in my Manila Tagalog, “bobo” in mestizo Spanish. The title in front page caps says that is not just Doronila talk, it is Inquirer’s statement.
Not in caps but still on the front page it says: “His speech confirmed … that his sanctimonious government was in a fight with the Ombudsman.” Sanctimonious??!!
In this as in the other instance I wrote you several months ago, re the DPWH secretary, the offending column appeared on your front page on Monday morning. Sounds to me like your Sunday night news editor may need clear guidelines about allowing columnists’ opinionated statements on the front page, in large font pa man din. I would appreciate your and his limiting such to the Opinion pages, be they by Conrado de Quiros or Rigoberto Tiglao.
