Monsoon rains grim reminders of worse to come

The torrential monsoon rains that recently battered Luzon, including Metro Manila, served as a grim warning of worse things to come if we don’t take good care of our environment.

Let’s have our riverbanks, creeks, estuaries, etc. dredged and cleared of rubbish, aside from relocating the informal settlers whose houses block their flow. The local governments concerned should implement a long-range plan to rehabilitate our waterways as soon as possible. In so doing, the pestering problem of perennial flooding in Metro Manila will be partly solved.
