COA objective on citizens’ complaint against VP

/ 10:47 PM August 20, 2012

We refer to the news article titled “Binay camp slams ‘demolition plan,’ VP’s aide says COA’s Heidi Mendoza keen on probing past Makati projects” (Inquirer, 8/1/12).

We would like to make it clear that there is no special task force created to investigate and probe past Makati projects of Vice President Jejomar Binay. Also, a special task force is created by the Commission on Audit chair and not by a commissioner.

The complaint relating to the Makati Friendship Suites was filed by citizens and, in the usual course, referred to the auditor concerned and the Fraud Audit Office for validation and investigation if warranted. The director of the Fraud Audit Investigation Office clarified that all letter-complaints received are treated with objectivity.
