Lawmakers as teachers

/ 05:01 AM November 16, 2023

What the Senate opposition lacks in numbers is well compensated by the caliber of its due diligence. Senators Risa Hontiveros and Koko Pimentel demonstrate how good governance functions when it ferrets a wealth of facts from the labyrinths of bureaucracy for a public who deserves to know. Fact grounds critical thinking and arms against the malice of disinformation. Theft of funds in high places from a public—48 percent declaring themselves “poor,” is unconscionable, as is the theft of the innocence of children by human traffickers, or basic education by cult leaders. Post-election is a good time—actually any time would do—to remind officials that campaign time is over; now they must buckle down, to free and to feed.
