Kapatiran’s core values remain

/ 04:01 AM February 21, 2022

Ang Kapatiran Party (KP) was founded in 2004 based on the social doctrines and principles of the Catholic Church. Until today, the party’s platform and issues have not changed like the prohibition of political dynasties, abolition of the pork barrel system, legislated gun control, repeal of bank secrecy law, among others.

Echoing the teachings of Vatican II, the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines encourages laypeople “to explicitly promote the election to public office of leaders of true integrity.” Kapatiran Party dutifully responded to this call in fidelity to God’s gospel values and His teachings through the Church.

The late Nandy Pacheco, founder of KP, noted that many Catholics still do not know that such a political party exists. That is why our candidates in the past elections did not win because they are not popular. Many of our people are still prone to elect those whose names ring a bell, those who are moneyed or influential in society.

Through KP, we wish to bring back God at the center of politics and bring change to our society based on universally accepted norms and ethos.

As a KP member, I sometimes think of giving up. I am not like biblical Abraham who waited patiently for his promised heir nor David who waited for his time to reign as king. But I remain hopeful. It may not be during my lifetime but my incessant prayer is for the party to be given the chance to prove its worth in governance and make our country a better place to live in.
