Different laws, similar violations?

04:00 AM March 06, 2020

COLUMNIST Antonio J. Montalvan II was dead-on (“Duterte in flagrante delicto,” 3/2/20). Ang isda ay nahuhuli sa sariling bibig. President Duterte shoots his mouth off often, too obscenely and too carelessly. From his reckless bluster against ABS-CBN where he said he had spent over P175 million on that network alone for his campaign ads (not counting tens of millions more on the other media outlets), aren’t these admissions of his overspending during the 2016 election enough to disqualify him from further holding office as president?

What is the Commission on Elections doing? Has it become another “independent commission” already in the tank for the powers-that-be? Was the law it applied earlier to disqualify Laguna governor ER Ejercito for overspending different from the law blatantly violated by Mr. Duterte?
