Panelo’s spin shouldn’t be dignified
Stephen Monsanto’s letter (“Robredo should call Duterte’s bluff,” 11/5/19) was dead-on, were it not set in a vacuum. The truth of the matter is, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo is so full of BS no one really takes him seriously. The words that come out of his mouth are so ephemeral they are forgotten before his spit hits the ground.
One really has to give it to Panelo for his ability to twist like a tumbleweed in the desert wind. Recall his spin after President Duterte blurted out “inambush na kita, buhay ka pa, animal ka!”, referring to former Daanbantayan mayor Vicente Loot whom he tagged as a drug lord. Panelo somersaulted many times over to come up with “inambush ka na, buhay ka pa!”, as if those who heard it from the President himself were too dumb to understand what he meant.
Thus, what Panelo said about President Duterte handing over tremendous executive power to Vice President Leni Robredo to handle the so-called “war on drugs” herself, after admitting he could no longer do it himself, should be treated as nothing more than poppycock undeserving to be dignified with a comment. Not gonna happen, period!
