Case of blind leading the blind
The news, “MMDA offers help to fix Baguio traffic” (6/11/19), really got me falling off my seat so early in the morning!
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is said to be offering Baguio City traffic authorities “computer applications to draw up the real-time traffic condition of the city” and to help, of course, solve traffic congestion in that neck of the woods. The picture of a blind man leading another blind man came to mind.
The MMDA has long had those “computer applications” in place in Metro Manila, spending tens of millions in taxpayer money. Yet it has still to understand what causes “real-time traffic” congestion in at least two major never-ending choke points along Edsa right under their noses: Guadalupe and Cubao. Field reporters of radio/TV networks keep pointing out daily that after getting past those gridlocks, traffic starts flowing more smoothly. Still, MMDA traffic enforcers seem utterly clueless—or just looking the other way? Are they really dumb, or hopelessly corrupt?
