‘Kalokohan’

That’s how I would describe the party-list system in the country. It never was and never will be a representation of the marginalized and underrepresented sectors, but of political dynasties hiding behind so-called relevant advocacies.

The party-list system should be a reform and program-based measure. However, the greedy and the rich who want to have power are using this platform to advance their personal interests.

The significance of this system has simply deteriorated over the years. Members of popular clans and families, even businessmen, have infiltrated it, leaving voters scant choice for more diverse representation. In the end, Filipinos are suffering because of the actions of a powerful few.

I am appealing to Filipino voters to scrutinize not only the party-list groups but also their nominees, to have a clearer picture of who they believe could truly help the marginalized sectors of our society.
