Makati people’s choice

05:02 AM October 22, 2018

This pertains to Yvette San Luis-Petrocelli’s “Poor Makati folk” (Letters, 10/17/18).

Let me say something. Former vice president Jejomar Binay, prior to filing his certificate of candidacy as representative of Makati’s first district, was a well-known human rights lawyer.

He transformed Makati from marshland to a first-class city, had a sterling performance as chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, and was appointed as dean of law at the University of Makati.

Yes, Jejomar Binay, Dr. Elenita Binay and Junjun Binay have been charged before the Ombudsman, but the court cases are still under litigation. Under the rule of law, they are presumed innocent until final conviction.

Lust for power? Of course not. They were elected by the people of Makati, who decide who are capable, decent and trustworthy to lead them.
