All that ‘nonsense’ over Duterte’s successor

/ 05:10 AM August 23, 2018

All that jabberwocky that comes out of President Duterte’s mouth should never be front page material. The headline, “Du30: I’m thinking of stepping down” (8/16/18), was nothing but that.

While Mr. Duterte blabbed that he would step down in a heartbeat only if Chiz Escudero or Bongbong Marcos were to succeed him, his actual message was, no way would he resign, because the constitutional successor is Vice President Leni Robredo, who he thinks is an “incompetent” second in command. Thus, it was an utterance devoid of any newsworthiness.

Come to think of it, was the President saying that his running mate in 2016 (now Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano) was a joke, that he never really considered him competent enough to take his place in case he was incapacitated? And does Cayetano not see the insult? What price is this once very honorable senator paying just to cling to power?
