Philippine media has its share of bloodthirsty members. A lady columnist who, in wild approval of the government’s brutal war on drugs, recently and unbelievably wrote: “The cost in blood may be high, but it must be done.”

Make no mistake about it: I am in full support of President Duterte’s sincere desire and resolve to eradicate the drug menace in the country. But that’s what I support, not the wanton snuffing out of life here and there. In this regard, I wish to share with President Duterte ideas and suggestions of unconventional ways and means — drastic but not violent — a kind of bloodless revolution toward truly solving the drug problem.

Since when has killing its citizens been a “sworn duty” of government?
