Questions for Pacquiao

In a letter to the editor, the writer noted Sen. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao citing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as an argument to push for the reimposition of the death penalty (“Pacquiao using the Bible for his political agenda,” Opinion, 1/25/17). Of all the hypocritical preachings we have heard in this world, Pacquiao’s spin has got to be transparently the dumbest.

Here’s our question to Pacquiao:  If you really are a “born-again Christian,” can you tell all of us in the eye that you have “tithed” or set aside “for the Lord” 10 percent of the billions of pesos you have earned from slugging it out in the ring, i.e., knocking the living daylights out of your opponents—in the name of and for the glory of God?

Given his status as among the richest members of Congress, his statement of assets, liabilities and networth should also disclose that he is now less rich for having parted with (read: put in the material hands of his favorite earthly pastors for their spending anyway they please) at least P100 million. Does it?  If not, he should stop being so sanctimonious.

Socking it to his opponents in the ring, Pacman deserves our utmost respect and adulation, we get that already. With every punch he throws, millions of us are riding on it.  But when it comes to proselytizing, not a word he utters is gospel truth to us. The inconvenient truth is, he really sucks at it.
