“Hindi bayani si Marcos” read the huge signage in front of Ateneo de Manila University along Katipunan Avenue, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. It enumerated the sins of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos to make it clear to everyone what a sick joke it is for a majority of nine Supreme Court justices to allow him a “hero’s burial.”
Associate Justice Arturo Brion is one of the brightest lawyers produced by Ateneo Law School. In his concurring opinion, he considered Marcos a hero deserving of a hero’s burial. Apparently, this is one rotten apple that fell too far away from the tree.
And huddled with him were two other prominent Atenean justices (Mariano del Castillo and Estela Perlas-Bernabe) who also didn’t mind giving Marcos a “hero’s burial” despite the “atrocities he committed during his authoritarian rule.” With Jesuit-trained Ateneans like them, who needs heretics?
