Bongbong Marcos has often asked whether a son is responsible for his father’s sins.
I know this to be true: The curse of sin visits not only the son but also his children and his children’s children for a number of generations. Moreover, the consequence of the sin continues to affect the Filipinos even after President Marcos’ death.
But the curse of the sin and its consequences are already broken in Christ, but this needs to be applied first to the Marcos family and secondly to the Filipinos. How?
For the Marcos family, Imee has asked for forgiveness. Which makes me think, she has an awareness of the sin. Yet, is her awareness enough to lead her to true repentance and to openly expressing an apology to the Filipino people? I believe the people are still waiting.
If the Marcoses get a revelation that true repentance and confession will totally erase all misgivings and wrongdoings their father caused (and I mean totally cleanse the sins of the past and its consequences), then I have no doubt they will be rushing to repent and apologize. And when followed by restitution which means returning back all that was stolen and lost (financially and man’s dignity). This will open the door to healing, unity and prosperity not only for the Marcos family but also for the Filipino people. Isn’t this what we all want?
(And please, no more impunity).
On the other hand, are the Marcos’ hearts so hardened and just like Esau’s, they can no longer come to a point of repentance? This is tragedy, inviting suffering. But I pray that it will not come, and I pray for mercy.
From the Filipino people? Forgiveness—and we are a forgiving people. Forgiveness is not cheap; it cost the life of Christ. Forgiveness is a miracle, which we have experienced and are willing to give to others including the Marcos family.
As for me, I started looking into what really happened during the Marcos era. I apologize for being ignorant of how serious the misdeeds, the extent of torture, the killings, and the curtailing of freedom. I apologize.
I pray by the Spirit of God, that this message will reach the Marcos family and all those affected by them.
