Unforgivable

It is understandably forgivable to see those who never lived through martial law favoring the burial of Ferdinand E. Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

We tend to blame this seeming lack of moral fortitude on the dearth of adequate information/history books about the horrible period of Marcos’ martial law era.

However, this cannot be said of the nine justices who endorsed and paved the way for Marcos’ interment in the hallowed ground reserved only for those worthy of emulation and inspiration.

These nine magistrates knew without doubt the shame and ignominy Marcos brought to his name and country because of his insatiable greed for fortune and unmitigated thirst for power.

They should have instead helped memorialize Marcos’ misdeeds to prevent their recurrence in the future by denying him space in the heroes’ pantheon.

May the nine names be forever remembered as having despicably institutionalized the distortion of our country’s martial law history.
