BCDA open to discussions re BGC-Naia BRT System

We write in response to a letter sent by Victorino S. Hingco regarding the Bonifacio Global City (BGC)-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system project (“Bus rapid transit system dev’t to face major obstacles unless…,” Opinion, 11/12/16).

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) encourages meaningful discussions with people about our various initiatives, and we graciously thank Hingco for sharing his insights regarding the BGC-Naia BRT system. This project is intended to ensure efficient, reliable and comfortable transport to and from BGC and Naia, as part of the BRT system proposed by the Department of Transportation. It will also allow people to get to the airport in 15-20 minutes, guaranteed. We strongly believe that this seamless connectivity to the airport from BGC will effectively address the traffic congestion problem our people face every day.

BCDA recognizes the challenges in undertaking the development of the BRT system and, as such, has been working in close coordination with the relevant local government units, government agencies, and other stakeholders in creating a plan that is doable and can be implemented swiftly. The plan will take into account the current state of the road network system in these areas including Lawton Avenue and the Sales interchange, which have been identified as a key road network that needs to be widened and improved for the BRT project.

BCDA assures that it will carefully evaluate options in building the BGC-Naia BRT system, taking into consideration all concerns raised by Hingco and the public in general.

However, in the end, government must and will implement this project as it will definitely ensure that our people’s daily struggles with traffic and congestion will be addressed.

Please be assured of our commitment to see this project through, as we are driven by the desire to improve the everyday life of the people.
