‘Day of Mourning’

12:04 AM November 22, 2016

Nov. 18, 2016, should be declared a “Day of Mourning” with the burial in the Libingan ng mga Bayani of an ex-president who, in the history of our beloved country, was a tyrant and the author of martial rule, and caused the disappearance and death of thousands of Filipinos.

The timing and manner of Ferdinand Marcos’ burial were consistent with the long years of deception during his rule as president. While the Supreme Court voted in favor of his burial in the Libingan, the decision is not yet final and executory as there is yet a legal remedy for those opposed to it.

We call on the Filipino people, especially the victims of martial law, to continue to fight for justice.  It may be that justice will not be found here on earth. Marcos’ family members may have buried his earthly body in what they think is a great place for heroes, but forget the more important place of an eternal repose.

In the end, we should all be reminded of the story of Lazarus and the rich man in the Holy Bible.
