Du30 to blame for ‘out-of-control’ situation

Who is President Duterte threatening when he speaks of suspending the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus in view of the rise in criminality?

Is he threatening criminals? They couldn’t care less; they are already defying the law in spite of the punishment they know awaits them if they are caught. Besides, many are already being summarily killed, so what will a mere warning achieve?

Is he threatening law enforcers? They would love the move; it will make their life easier.

Is he threatening the general citizenry? Why threaten peace-loving people? In fact it is for the general citizenry to ask why government has not curbed lawlessness. Rather, it seems like lawlessness is being fomented by the brutal means that characterize the administration’s banner program—its war on the drug menace.
