While reading the report titled “Lacson: Espinosa slay premeditated” (News, 11/11/16), an interesting fact jumped out of the page and gave me a pause. Why was there a “search warrant” issued by a judge to authorize the search of a prison?
When Oplan Galugad was enforced in the New Bilibid Prison to search for contraband stashed in the “kubols” of convicted drug lords there, did the raiders see any need for such a warrant? Of course, not. A prison is fair game for any search by government authorities at any time.
The judge who issued that warrant was way over his head.
It is interesting to note that Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa’s affidavit mentioned some high-placed personalities, including judges, as coddlers of drug lords. What was the deal? Two people died in the hands of trigger-happy gun-wielders implementing that “search warrant.”
