The mood before the declaration of martial law

It was year 1972. President Ferdinand Marcos had everything planned out for the full implementation of a nationwide Martial Law. He was just looking for the timing.

Most of the media, with the exception of Manila Chronicle and the Philippines Free Press, did not believe that Marcos had the audacity to implement Martial Law. Even opposition leaders, like Senator Ninoy Aquino didn’t.

But perhaps, this element of surprise played out in Marcos’ favor as we would see.
