Inquirer columnist Rina Jimenez-David protests too much. In her Sept. 14 opinion piece titled “Mary Jane and our drug casualties,” she railed against those who think that President Duterte was right in leaving the fate of convicted drug courier, Mary Jane Veloso, to the Indonesian criminal justice system that found her guilty and sentenced her to death according to the laws of that foreign land.
David seemed sold to the notion that Veloso was unfairly tried and that the Indonesian court made a terrible mistake in finding her guilty. Here’s some morsel for thought to David: Would it be all right to her if foreign governments also interfered with our criminal justice system that now holds several of their nationals liable for drug manufacturing and trafficking in this country, on the same argument that our courts are incompetent and incapable of dispensing genuine justice?
