Filipino soldiers in the mind of a young civilian

/ 12:12 AM September 22, 2016

Let’s pray for our soldiers in Mindanao who are in the frontline fighting the Abu Sayyaf. We might not be able to help them during actual combat operations, but we can help them by boosting their morale. Military troops all over the country, especially in the Southern Philippines, get their strength from their families, loved ones and from each of us for whom they are risking their lives.

I can’t imagine the danger and threat they face every day as they go after Abu Sayyaf terrorists, particularly in Basilan and Sulu. The soldiers may not know each of us, we may not be one of their relatives, but they consider us family for whom they are willing to lay down their lives. Every day, as I watch and read news about the continuing, focused military operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group, I can see the hard sacrifices our soldiers are making for our nation.

I also think of the young soldiers of my age and pray for their return so they can join their family and enjoy a productive adult life. They have chosen to serve the country and the people and I realize how lucky I am to wake up every day in the comfort of my home to live a normal life, and I can only be grateful to all of them.
