Long overdue OFW department

A plan to create a department for overseas Filipino workers would be a welcome development to the millions of Filipinos working abroad. (“Duterte: My gov’t will take care of OFWs,” Inquirer.net, 4/24/16)

With all agencies attending to the needs of OFWs “under one roof,” so to speak, the department could serve overseas workers well and good.

These “unsung heroes” deserve utmost attention, care and assistance from the government and they should be praised and rewarded by the entire nation. Why? Because our country was able to weather the economic crisis or fallout in the last years of the Marcos regime because of them. The creation of a department for OFWs is long overdue.

So is it “Too late the hero” or “Better late than never”?
