If I were to be asked what my position would be regarding sexuality and same-sex marriage, I would have this to say:
One’s sexual orientation comes with his/her birth and is, therefore, a creation of God. What is behind this quirk in God’s supposed infallibility in the creation of life on earth poses a challenge that’s for everyone to ponder. It is apparent that lesbianism or homosexuality cannot be altered and will remain throughout one’s life. Some in such state can only do so much to suppress their orientation with some success; but their sexual attraction to the same sex will manifest all through their life until death.
Apparently, advocates of same-sex marriages have realized that homosexuality can’t just be altered and the better alternative is to lend some legality in their same-sex partnership.
Whenever a disagreement on the issue of homosexuality arises, I always recall the late Manila Mayor Arsenio H. Lacson’s stand on this issue: Ang mga bakla (at tomboy) ay hindi dapat kamuhian kundi dapat kaawaan. (Homosexuals should not be hated but should instead be accorded compassion.) The statement underpins the pitiable state of being locked in a physical body of a certain sex by an unorthodox craving for the same sex, not for the opposite sex.
Could there be a more brilliant, perceptive position on same-sex issue than this?
