HERE’S A concrete example of how “politics” can subvert democracy or the sovereign will of the people—I mean those who think and have genuine concern for the country.
If Sen. Grace Poe were not gunning for the presidency in the coming elections, much less a front-runner in the race, I don’t think there would be a Rizalito David and his ilk to block her lane in the racetrack; and there would be no “political” Commission on Elections to disqualify her.
Ridiculous, the antagonists can’t find a valid controversy to raise against “The King’s” daughter, so they have to resort to this.
Poe garnered the highest vote in the May 2013 senatorial elections and has been serving the nation as a principled and independent-minded senator since then. Therefore, her residency and citizenship should be nonissues at this time.
Oh, it’s pure politics! And “politics” has been anathema to good life.
If the enlightened clamor for Poe continues to ring popular and true, then what would prevent the people from having her as their next president? Poe’s petition to reverse the Comelec judgment (or misjudgment) to cancel her certificate of candidacy is now about to be decided with finality.
Will the Supreme Court decide wisely?
